The Power of Metabiotics for Women's Health

The Power of Metabiotics for Women's Health

When it comes to health and wellness, women are often juggling a complex mix of factors and changes, from hormonal fluctuations to busy lifestyles. In this whirlwind, finding effective ways to support our well-being is crucial—but no one wants to do hours of research to take several different supplements daily. Luckily, metabiotic supplements can be a simple and effective way of improving women’s health on multiple fronts.

The key to women’s health: the gut-brain axis

Because of the undeniable link between gut health and brain health (known as the gut-brain axis), your gut (often called the “second brain”) microbiome must be balanced for your brain to work optimally.

There are a few health issues that women experience more prevalently than men, and you may not even have known that these issues are interrelated!

Depression: Studies have shown that about twice as many women as men experience depression worldwide. While this certainly feels a bit unfair, what accounts for this significant gender gap? There are a multitude of reasons for this, with the most prevalent factors likely being a higher sensitivity to interpersonal relationships and hormonal fluctuations related to menstruation, pregnancy, and menopause.

Chronic stress: Chronic stress is another widespread mental health issue that women report experiencing more prevalently than men. The brain, immune system, and gut (B.I.G.)  are all highly interconnected and susceptible to psychological stress, which has a myriad of adverse effects on overall well-being. It’s linked to inflammation, mental health disorders, and some severe diseases. That’s why, if you recognize that chronic stress is negatively impacting you, you shouldn’t convince yourself it’s not a big deal; it’s crucial to address it.

Irritable bowel syndrome: IBS is a chronic disease resulting in symptoms like bloating, constipation, and/or diarrhea, and it can significantly reduce quality of life. It affects between 25 and 45 million people in the U.S.—and about 2 in 3 IBS sufferers are female. The TikTok trend “hot girls with IBS” brings awareness to this disparity in the prevalence of the condition between men and women. While we don’t know for sure what causes this, it might be due to factors like the effects of female hormones on the gastrointestinal tract, as well as women’s higher susceptibility to depression and stress.

Because of the growing desire for all-natural, drug-free alternatives to manage mental and physical health, more women are turning to metabiotic supplements like del-IMMUNE V® Daily and Defense and the Brain Immune Gut™ (B.I.G.) Gummy. del-IMMUNE V® supplements, which contain cell wall and DNA fragments from the bacteria Lactobacillus rhamnosus DV, are metabiotic supplements that support the immune system and balance the gut microbiome. Thanks to the teamwork between your gut and your brain, the benefits of del-IMMUNE V® to gut health extend into improvements in mental health and cognition. Because our body naturally releases small amounts of metabiotics in the gut, daily supplementation with del-IMMUNE V® is a natural way to give your body what it needs.

Immune support for women

Your immune system is another way in which your gut and your brain are connected. When it comes to immunity and protection from pathogens, a challenge that women face lies in the sensitivity of the vaginal microbiome. Sometimes, maintaining a healthy vaginal pH balance, microbiota, and odor proves to be a challenge.

Yeast infections, caused by the fungus Candida, are prevalent. According to Harvard Health, 75% of women have at least one vaginal Candida infection in their lifetimes, while 45% of women have two or more.

Another common vaginal infection called bacterial vaginosis (BV) affects 23%–29% of women of reproductive age, according to the World Health Organization.

Some unlucky women even experience recurrent vaginal infections, requiring long-term antifungal therapy (in the case of yeast infections) or multiple rounds of antibiotics (in the case of BV). These recurrent infections are not only inconvenient and damaging to quality of life but also dangerous, as long-term use of antibiotics can cause antibiotic resistance and negative changes in the gut microbiota, with links to various chronic diseases and even premature death.

Supplementation with del-IMMUNE V® is a safe, side-effect-free, long-term solution for the global health issue of overuse of antibiotics. In a 2023 study by Penchuk et al., researchers tested del-IMMUNE V® against bacteria and yeast and found that it has antibacterial and antifungal properties during direct contact with pathogenic agents. It works by providing immediate broad-spectrum support by prompting the production of mediators required for proper immune function and balance.

Metabolic diseases in women

Women and men are at a similar risk for type 2 diabetes, a type of metabolic disorder characterized by elevated blood sugar levels due to the body’s inability to use the hormone insulin properly, also called insulin resistance. However, women are sadly at risk of more severe complications than men. Women with diabetes have a higher risk for heart disease, blindness, and depression, as well as lower survival rates after a heart attack.

A 2024 study1 by Dr. Liubov Sichel, Co-Founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Stellar Biotics, and researchers from O.O. Bogomolets National Medical University, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, and the Center for Innovative Medical Technologies looked at the effectiveness and safety of supplementation with del-IMMUNE V® Defense for people with type 2 diabetes in a randomized clinical trial. For 3 months, subjects were given a twice-daily oral dose of del-IMMUNE V® Defense (100 mg capsule), and researchers measured important parameters indicating the severity of type 2 diabetes. After 3 months of taking del-IMMUNE V® and a 3-month follow-up period without it, the group taking del-IMMUNE V® had an improvement in every single parameter measured, while the placebo group had either a minor improvement or a worsening of these parameters. You can find more details about this study in our post about the diabetes research.

Since obesity is a major risk factor for type 2 diabetes, it’s essential to maintain a healthy weight. And as many of us have experienced, women have the added complication of hormones often causing hormonal weight gain. This can be incredibly frustrating for those who live a relatively healthy lifestyle and feel that their hormones are hindering them from their wellness goals.

Although the diabetes trial wasn’t about using del-IMMUNE V® for weight loss, the researchers also observed some exciting weight and bodily measurement changes. Amazingly, the del-IMMUNE V® group lost 7.45 pounds, while the placebo group had no change in weight. The del-IMMUNE V® group also had decreases in BMI, waist circumference, total body fat, and visceral fat compared to the placebo group. Weight loss can be attributed to the fact that del-IMMUNE V® helps normalize liver functionality, insulin resistance, sugar metabolism, and hormonal status while decreasing inflammation and improving digestion. For more details on how this works, check out our other post, How Metabiotics and Postbiotics Can Improve Type 2 Diabetes and Fatty Liver Disease.

The fact that these results were obtained 3 months after subjects stopped taking del-IMMUNE V® proves that supplementation with del-IMMUNE V® has beneficial effects that are both potent and sustained.

Metabiotics: a diverse solution for everyone

While women may be more susceptible to certain health issues, anyone can benefit mentally and physically from daily metabiotic supplementation. Metabiotics like del-IMMUNE V® and the Brain Immune Gut™ (B.I.G.) Gummy can significantly improve your quality of life by benefiting your mind, gut, and immune function.
